What unusual eating habits does Prince William have?

Prince William has always seemed the picture of sophistication, but it seems the future king may be less formal behind closed doors, especially when it comes to his eating habits.

From ditching the traditional British Sunday roast for a more continental menu to opting for something sweet, here are the unexpected eating habits Duchess Kate should adopt from her husband.

Pizza and fried chicken

Roast chicken is a traditional Sunday meal in Britain, but William chose to ditch it in favor of an Italian dish, pizza, according to former royal chef Darren McGrady.

On his website, Darren told how brothers William and Harry wanted pizza one night and decided to change the kitchen instructions for primates. They were very young when they did this and acted by falsifying the menu and sending it to the kitchen as if it had come from their nanny. The cook noticed that the handwriting was different and looked like a child's, so he ignored the note and cooked the steak.

But his love for pizza clearly hasn't waned, as the family now includes the Italian dish on their own menu at home. Kate explained how their three children love making pizza: “I made pizza dough with George and Charlotte. They like it because they can make a lot of messes with their hands.”

Bribed to eat vegetables

Darren previously revealed that one of Prince William and Prince Harry's favorite dishes when they were younger was crispy chicken with mac and cheese, cooked very simply with salt before popping it in the oven. And who can resist a bowl of mac and cheese?

The former royal chef said the princes loved chicken and macaroni and cheese with some sweet corn, but when their nanny was in the house, the chicken had to be accompanied by broccoli. And the compromise was that Harry and William ate a floret of broccoli for every bite of chicken!

Cookie cake

Everyone loves a big slice of chocolate cake, but William has a passion for a very specific recipe he knows from his grandmother, the Queen: sponge cake. It is known to be one of the Queen's favorite snacks, and William inherited this pleasure and served it at his royal wedding to Kate Middleton in 2011.

Popcorn Snack

It's hard to imagine the Duke and Duchess cuddling over a bag of popcorn before watching a good movie, but it happens. During the royal tour of Canada and the United States in 2014, the two shared a bucket of popcorn while attending a basketball game.

Easter chocolate

Like many parents in Britain, William and Kate make sure the Easter Bunny leaves plenty of sweets for their three children on Easter Sunday. But we doubt George, Charlotte and Louis would be happy to find out that their dad is stealing their chocolate when they're not looking! During a video call with schoolchildren in April 2020, William said: "He'll eat a lot of chocolate here, don't worry!" Smiling, Katya quickly replied: “And you will continue!”

Fast food

When he was little, Prince William loved McDonald's Happy Meals. The royal chef said: "I remember Princess Diana walking into the kitchen one day and saying, 'Cancel the boys' lunch, we're going to McDonald's.' And I said: Oh my God, Your Royal Highness, I can make hamburgers. And she said: no, it’s about burgers, this is the toy I want.”
