The famous singer The Weeknd (33 years old) donated an amount of 2.5 million dollars for Gaza. This money will be used to purchase 820 tons of food packages, which will feed almost 173 thousand residents for two weeks.
Four million meals will be distributed by UN World Food Program (WFP) volunteers in Gaza thanks to a $2.5 million donation from 33-year-old Canadian singer The Weeknd. This donation will purchase 820 tonnes of food parcels, which will feed almost 173,000 residents for two weeks.
“We thank Abel for this precious contribution to the life of the Palestinian people. We hope others will follow Abel's example and support our efforts,” said Corinne Fleischer, WFP's director for the Middle East, North Africa and Eastern Europe region, in a statement released on Friday, Observator.ro reported.
The Weeknd Launches XO Humanitarian Fund in Partnership with WFP
Also, according to the organization, the donation comes “at a critical time” that is “struggling to feed more than a million Gazans on the brink of starvation.” The UN World Food Program (WFP) assisted more than 121,000 people, especially in previously inaccessible areas of Gaza, during the week-long ceasefire.
The Canadian artist, with a net worth of $300 million and 103 million monthly listeners on Spotify, has been an ambassador for the UN World Food Program since 2021. From his personal fortune, he donated 1.6 million euros at that time. In March 2022, he also launched the XO Humanitarian Fund in partnership with WFP, raising nearly five million dollars in just a few months. Half of this amount was used to "support emergency food assistance for women and children in Ethiopia" and the other half was used simply to support civilians in the Gaza Strip.
