Romanian actor Sebastian Stan, emotional speech after receiving the Silver Bear: “For a boy from Romania, this means a lot”

We have something to be proud of! Romanian-born actor Sebastian Stan (41) was recently awarded the Ursula de Arginta Trophy for his role in The Other Man. The Hollywood star said that he was honored and that this award means a lot to him.

“This is my first European film festival. This means a lot to a little boy from Romania, so thank you,” Sebastian Stan said on stage at the Berlin Festival, visibly moved. In Aaron Shimberg's The Other Man, he plays a New York actor who undergoes a radical medical procedure to change his physiognomy. This film was shot during the Covid-19 pandemic, within 22 days, the actor admitted.

This year, Sebastian Stan will play the role of young Donald Trump in the new production of The Apprentice, directed by Ali Abbasi. Filming has already started in 2023. The film will focus on the period when Trump was laying the foundations of his real estate empire in New York in the 70s and 80s.

Sebastian Stan is a very popular actor in Hollywood. In 2022, he was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Miniseries for his role in the show Pam and Tommy, where he played the controversial American musician Tommy Lee, alongside Pamela Anderson's ex-husband Sebastian Stan. Robbie and Allison Janney in I, Tonya (2017), which received three 2018 Oscar nominations.

Sebastian Stan is perhaps best known for his role in the Marvel films. He played Bucky Barnes in Captain America: The First Avenger, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Ant-Man, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Black Panther.

The actor was born in Konstanz in 1982, but emigrated with his mother, piano teacher Georgette Orlowski, to Vienna when he was just eight years old. At the age of ten, Sebastian Stan played his first role in the film 71 Fragments of Chronology of Chance directed by Michael Haneke, and four years later he and his mother moved to New York, USA.

“I remember the night before we moved there, I was very scared. I took a shower and cried. It’s hard to move when you’re so small,” he said some time ago. There he attended the private school Rockland Country Day, where he acted in several plays. He later attended Mason Gross College of the Arts in New Jersey and then studied in London at the Globe Theatre.

However, he never renounced his Romanian origins. He proudly maintained his Romanian citizenship and was not shy about telling his Hollywood colleagues that he came from Romania. In one of the scenes in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, he also had lines in Romanian.

He returned to Romania for the first time in May 2018, where he took part in the American Independent Film Festival. Over time, he showed his solidarity with the Romanians by being aware of the protests and political events taking place in his home country. Also in an Instagram post from December 2020, Sebastian Stan praised the Romanian production "Collective" directed by Alexandre Nanau, which was named best documentary that year.
