The colossal amount for which Freddie Mercury's house is being sold! The artist left an inheritance to a friend

A former London home that belonged to legendary rock star Freddie Mercury, frontman of Queen, has been put on the market for a whopping $38 million. Garden Lodge in Kensington, West London, was the villa Freddie called "home" for 11 years.

Freddie Mercury bought Garden Lodge in 1980.

The hotel has many amenities including a huge living room, a library bar, a Japanese-style lounge and a music room. The stately brick residence was built in 1907 by architect Ernest Marshall for artist couple Cecil Rea and Constance.

The house was purchased on the spot by Freddie Mercury when he first visited in 1980. He fell in love with it at first sight and collaborated with architect and interior designer Robin Moore Ede to renovate it. According to the listing, the singer designed his home to be "a memorable, welcoming place that reflects his vibrant personality and eclectic vision."

In this spirit, the dining room was painted bright yellow, the musician's favorite color. The living room, which contains the piano on which Mercury wrote the famous song “Bohemian Rhapsody,” overlooks the hotel garden, decorated with magnolia trees. The villa's master bedroom is accessed through what was once Mercury's dressing room, where he kept his clothes and stage costumes.

When he died of complications from AIDS in 1991, Freddie Mercury bequeathed this luxurious estate to his good friend and former fiancée Mary Austin, 72. It is she who is now selling it through the company Knight Frank, CNN reports. Last year, Mary auctioned off several items that belonged to Mercury.

“This house has become the most magnificent memory box because there is so much love and warmth in every room. Living here was a joy and I have many wonderful memories. Now that it's empty, I'm transported back to the moment I first saw it. Ever since Freddie and I walked through the iconic green gate, it has been a place of peace, the home of a true artist, and now it is time to entrust that sense of peace to the next person,” Mary Austin explained in a statement to the magazine. Press. It remains to be seen which rich person will buy Garden Lodge - most likely it will be an ardent fan of Freddie Mercury's music.
