To sanitize your automatic washing machine, simply add 1-2 cups of white vinegar to the rinse compartment and run the machine on a hot water program without laundry. Then reboot the machine into the “cure” program, if it has such an option. If you are not benefiting from this program, run the machine on the longest cycle possible.
Also, if you have a front-loading washing machine, be sure to clean the rubber seal on the machine door, which can attract soap scum and dirty water! To clean it, simply use a damp cloth and white vinegar.
Another effective trick is to add a small amount of laundry to the washing machine. It is important not to load laundry into the machine at maximum power because the laundry will not be washed and odors will persist. And using too much detergent can prevent clothes from cleaning optimally because the wash creates too much suds, making the clothes harder to rinse and clean.
