Are you hurt? Ask Saint Mina for help...

Every year on November 11, Orthodox and Greek Catholic Christians thank Saint Mina for all the help provided, especially to the sick, maimed, offended and girls who want to start a family.

Saint Mina became one of the saints known as the protectors of those who were victims of thieves. He was born in Egypt and became an orphan at the age of 15. He was a soldier in the army of the emperors Diocletian and Maximian. Seeing that these emperors were persecuting Christians, he decided to spend his life in the desert praying to God. After some time, he returned from the monastery and began to preach Christianity, but was imprisoned and tortured. After his departure to the Lord, inexplicable healings occurred at his grave.

He rewards the robbed

Since its discovery, the relics of Saint Mina have brought relief to many believers, especially those who suffered as a result of theft and the sick. Many victims found answers to their prayers to the saint and their stolen belongings were found. The story of a young man from Bucharest whose car disappeared in front of his house is well known. Then his steps reached the relics of Saint Mina in the center of Bucharest. He prayed, and a few days later his car was found.

Another woman came to the doctors in Iasi with all the money she had. At the station she lost money. Embittered, she went to the Metropolitan Cathedral, where she knelt before the relics of Saint Menas and prayed for a solution to her situation. She returned to the station, intending to go home, and there, as if by miracle, she saw her wad of money thrown under some stairs. With tears in her eyes, the woman returned to thank the saint. It is no coincidence that on November 11th, countless believers who believe in the power of the saint worship and take turns offering thanks to the saint.

He healed the daughter of Emperor Constantine the Great

After the end of the persecution of Christians, an angel appeared to Pope Athanasius of Alexandria who asked him to take the body of Saint Menas to the desert. Not far from Alexandria, a camel stopped, on which the body of the saint was laid. Then people buried the body at this place. For centuries, nothing was known about the place where the saint was buried.

At one point, a shepherd noticed that sick sheep grazing in the area were miraculously healed. The news spread, and sick people began to come there, not knowing what the true reason for the healings was. Even the daughter of Emperor Constantine the Great, who was sick with leprosy, was healed here. After the discovery of his relics, one of the most famous miracles was the healing of a lame man and a dumb woman near the monastery of St. Menas in Egypt, where they prayed incessantly.

Where do victims go to pray?

Currently, pieces of the relics of Saint Mina have been delivered to many churches and monasteries around the world. One of them is located in the Church of St. Mina Vergu. Almost 140 years ago, the boyars of Vergulesti, the founders of the church, sent envoys to Mount Athos and to a monastery in Egypt, where they bought them. Fragments can also be found in the Metropolitan Cathedral in Iaşi, while two other fragments were brought from Greece to the Church of St. Minas in Suceava in 2001.

Prayer of Saint Mina

“O blessed martyr Mina! Hear our prayer, which we offer to You with all our hearts, that You will deliver us from illnesses and dangers, honor Your memory and testify to the miracles You perform with the power of the gift of the Holy Spirit to those who sing with faith: Alleluia!” (“Akathist to the Holy Great Martyr Mina”, Kontakion 13).
