What does it mean to be demisexual? These prompts leave you empty!

If you feel sexual attraction only after you have formed an emotional connection with your partner, you may be demisexual. You can find more explanations of what demisexuality means!

Do you feel disinterested in the idea of intimate relationships? Do you take months of getting to know someone before you feel comfortable being intimate with that partner because you feel the need for a deep emotional connection? Then you might be demisexual.

The term was coined in 2007, according to Best Life, on a forum called The Asexual Visibility and Education Network by a user named Sonofzeal: “Experience sexual attraction, but very rarely and only when a deep emotional connection already exists.” The term then became popular, especially on dating sites.

It is very important to create an emotional connection

Trust, openness and emotional connection are what you are looking for in a relationship. You feel better after experiencing emotional intimacy and sharing personal stories than after a night of love.

You only enjoy privacy under certain circumstances

While some people on the asexual spectrum may not enjoy sex or want to ever have it, demisexuals do, but it has to happen under certain conditions. An emotional connection must be established before the desire to sleep with a specific person arises.

A 23-year-old woman wrote on a Reddit forum dedicated to demisexuality: “I only feel attracted after I get to know someone, if I find that I am valued for my intelligence or some other personal quality.”

Intimate relationships require connection

A demisexual person seeks a deeper emotional connection. Physical touch serves as a method of connecting, understanding and appreciating your partner, and brings satisfaction and pleasure.

Are you looking for a couple of relationships among friends?

Some of the most serious relationships for demisexuals often begin as platonic friendships, where they get to know the other person deeply before falling in love with them. If that same friend wanted to quickly transition to boyfriend status, the relationship would probably go nowhere, but after a few months of harmless friendship and much discussion, the transition becomes easier.
